500 (General Note)

Always note the source of title, using standard language. 

Example: 

500 __ ‡a Title devised by cataloger. 

500 __ ‡a Title from [source]. 

Always note the source of a supplied place or date. 

Examples: 

500 __ ‡a Place of creation supplied by cataloger. 

500 __ ‡a Date of creation supplied by cataloger. 

Optionally, note a place or date in transcribed form. 

Examples: 

500 __ ‡a Places of creation on versos: “San Fran, Calif” and “Las Veg, Nev”.

500 __ ‡a Date of creation in caption: Sept 12-16, 75. 

If multiple items are stored in more than one container, always include a count of containers in parentheses at the end of 300 ‡c or in a 500 note. 

Example:

Optionally, make other notes such as:

  • Caption location and content.
  • Sizes of items not specified in 300.
  • Source of supplied or conjectured creator. 
  • Edition information and copy numbers.

Required for all records.

  • The description in 520 must justify all 6xx and 7xx access points.
  • List major subjects, or optionally summarize subjects and enter specific personal names, topical subjects, geographic features, and genre terms only in 6xx.

Do not use. 

Use 561 for both previous owners and immediate source of acquisition. 


546 (Language)

Indicate location and content of text. If no text is present, record “No linguistic content.”

Examples:
